Hey guys. Just looking at the wiki and making sure it all works but I couldn’t open some of your things. Hope you all had a Christmas and new year. Congratulations on the baby Scott 🙂
Louise Slee – Using your menu tab for andragogy & pedagogy I can view all of your pintrest and youtube videos. I CANNOT sign into your prezi’s with the information you have provided.
Scott Macdonald – You need to provide logging in information in your menu tab. Ralph also used sliderocket but I can open his without needing to log it. His hyperlink says shareslide??
Ralph Clarke de Elliot – I have created you a cognitivism tab in the right hand menu and pasted your link into it so that Bruce can clearly navigate to our individual presentations. I can open yours.
Can somebody check that mine opens please? 😀
Chris

Our ALS met in the Learning Centre at 10.30 to collaborate what we had all gathered so far. We took the group decision to split our presentation into four 15 minute ‘mini-presentations’, one for each member of the ALS. We then questioned what structure our mini presentations should include, and agreed that we would roughly spend 5 mins on:
- Critical analysis of our designated learning theory, to include academic evidence, references and theoretical debate
- How we embed our respective theories, as well as the ICE principles into our subject specialisms (to also include evidence of emerging technologies)
- How we embed employability into our subject specialisms, with critical analysis.
After we agreed the structure of our presentations, we agreed that on Friday 7th November, we would each deliver our mini-presentation to the rest of our ALS, so that we can form an effective conclusion to our group presentation. These objectives have been added to our wiki space ‘objectives’ page.
Hello Guys
‘I am part of the problem and the problem is part of me’ Reg Revans
Action Learning Sets (ALS) allow individuals to work collaboratively with others. They can all be working towards the same goal, or slightly different goals, but they work best the more collective the targets are. ALS rely on the sum being more effective than the part, and utilize the different thinking/working strategies of the group members.
Members develop many skills when working in ALS. These can be seemingly simple, such as the ability to listen effectively and without judgement, or more refined such as the ability to critical analyse contributions and opinions.
Communication and organisation are qualities highly suited to ALS, and some ‘ground rules’ that can be laid are:
- Divide time equally amongst group members
- Delegate roles and responsibilities in a fair manner
- The group constantly asks questions to gauge their understanding and achievement towards the task
- Keep effective records in target and review form
